Preparing for the master florist exam at Jolanta Wardak's studio in Gdańsk

A day of preparation for the master florist exam under Jolanta Wardak's guidance in her Gdańsk studio: a dahlia arrangement in a footed bowl, a tall piece of grasses and clematis, and a hand-tied bouquet of grasses and cosmos.

I spent 12 September 2023 at Jolanta Wardak's studio in Gdańsk, preparing for the master florist exam under her guidance. Jolanta Wardak runs Warsztaty Florystyczne Jolanta Wardak and teaches florists at every level, including as an instructor of practical vocational training.

Three pieces were made that day. The first is an arrangement in a bowl with a diamond pattern on a gold foot: cactus, decorative and pompon dahlias in reds, corals and purple, loosened with dark leaves and fine panicles. The second is a tall piece of grasses, a bulrush and purple clematis on upright, tied stems. The third is a hand-tied bouquet of dry grasses and cosmos, in which the green stems matter as much as the flowers.
